it was all fun and games until...

This storm will not be
forgotten any time soon.

If you’re from Texas, you know that
snow is a big deal and typically met
with an abundance of joy.
This snow storm was no different, it
was met with excitement and awe
and lots of plans for playing.
The big difference was the temperatures
we experienced.
It. Was. Nuts.

That first glimpse!

Homegirl was ready!

My phone literally said 1 degree.
One.
I started taking screenshots so
that I could document.

Like nothing I’ve ever seen at home!

It was all fun and games until
people started losing power and water and
pipes started bursting.

While the joy was in abundance, reality
set in when the temperatures
wouldn’t rise.
Texans are tough, but our state just
isn’t equipped to survive an extreme winter.

Our house couldn’t get over 62 inside,
and we were some of the lucky ones!
We just had to stay bundled

We were so fortunate in this storm.
We only lost power for one night
(And it was a “warmer night”...I think the
low that night was only 16 to 20)
We also only had 2 pipes burst and
we caught them quickly and knew how
to turn our water off.

There was so much devastation
everywhere in the news.

Speaking of pipes-all the sudden
we had water coming in through
the window (and maybe baseboards)
That river of water was moving quickly.

It took some exploring
to figure out where the pipe was.

First check-the attic over the kitchen,
which had quite the difficult entrance.

Not in there.
Next stop...
the ceiling between the house and garage.
The face you make when you’re
about to tear into your house.

So glad this guy knows how to
fix things.

Time to bust out the big guns.
(Saaaaaaaad)

Meanwhile, we’re raising the next
generation of helpful men...

Found it.
Obviously we couldn’t wrap this
pipe or prepare it in anyway.

I feel for those tearing apart their homes
because of this storm.

After a trip to Home Depot where
Josh had to wait in a line around the
building, then a line inside the store to
get onto the plumbing aisle, he
came home empty handed. Our dear
friends saved us and had a cap
that fit. So we don’t have a water hose
right now...but it could be much worse.

We had to boil our water...but we were so
happy to get more water bottles
from Academy (because the stores
were out of stock)

What. A. Wild. Time.
