I’m in a very privileged group of people.
(This post is in reference to school closures, but
I’m very aware that it’s been true my whole life.)
Schools are closed for weeks to come.
I’m not mad about it or anxious.
I’m not dreading the days or feeling
overwhelmed by the task at hand.
But I’m lucky.
I only have one child in grade school.
(And my little man who still needs academic
exposure...and he’s got a little sister
trying to keep up)
So yes, I’ve got 3 levels to juggle, but
I’m not missing work or trying to work from home.
I’ve got a house ready to hold us for 2 weeks
if needed.
I have toilet paper.
And I get to homeschool.
Something I’ve been asking Paige to do for
years. Honestly it’s been from a semi-joking
standpoint, knowing her answer would
always be no.
But here we are.
Homeschooling.
We got quite a bit done today.
So very thankful for kids who are eager to learn.
Even lil Brooke who (only kind of) cut herself
trying to use scissors.
She didn’t even notice. The tiny cut
just blended in with all her marker streaks.
So happy that I live in the south with warm
days to be outside.
We took full advantage today since
rain is in our future.
Our creek has the best weeds!!
Tate was adamant that these beauties were on
our busiest table and not in the kitchen.
We covered many subjects today
and I really enjoyed the attention I put on
my kids. So nice to slow down
and sit with the kids
for longer moments.
It’s so easy to get distracted by my to-do list.
Omi was here and Paige had a handwriting
lesson from the best!
(Sadly she’s now done more in her
handwriting workbook than the
whole school year...but that rant isn’t
blog appropriate.)
...there’s a hint towards another reason
that I’m more than happy to homeschool
as long as needed this year.
Brooke got plenty of schooling done today.
Hours of coloring.
Naked.
She’s decided she doesn’t want to potty train.
We even found a caterpillar at the park.
Last night I watched a movie with my mom
instead of prepping for homeschooling.
Tonight I got the art station ready.
Supplies are now easy to access.
Bring on Day Two.
